Here’s a quick update for fans of two-wheeled transport..! Firstly we’re delighted to have had a mention in Jenny O’Grady’s article, which highlights perfect accommodation options for motorcyclists. We do indeed have some of the most stunning scenery here on the coast of Exmoor and everyone enjoys a drive to Lynton from Porlock, especially on a sunny day. Apart from the infamous Porlock Hill, the route passes through wild moorland, picturesque farm land, over dramatic sea cliffs and into the pretty seaside village of Lynmouth, passing no habitation other than two remote pubs along the 12 mile road. How funny that I have just been to the AA’s website to check the mileage and what was featured on their homepage? A huge image of the view from the top of Porlock Hill..! Magic. Anyway, bikers have always enjoyed the meandering route, noted as one of Britain’s ‘Best Biking Roads’ and returned to Sparkhayes again and again for their holidays. Which reminds me, our dear friend Bod (aka Lone Wolf) sent us the following photos of bikers staying at Sparkhayes way back in 1984… For those who prefer to travel under their own steam - an exciting new event has been organised right here in in Porlock Vale, the EX - an enduro mountain biking event, which takes place from 16-18 September. Numbers are limited to 80 cyclists and those 80 cyclists are in for a real treat! Three days of riding include 4-6 timed gravity special stages each day, a course length of 35-45km each day, 2,000m climbing each day (with an uplift every day for an easier start), fully marked course, medical cover, etc, evening entertainment, finishing gift and various other goodies that the organiser’s are currently working on! More information here and take a look at the video to the right! If you’re interested, you’d best get in early… | |
