| Greetings and best Autumn wishes. Today is Ada Lovelace day here in Porlock and we’re celebrating with an afternoon tea event with modern-day inspirational ladies. This new annual tradition has been well received, attracting a great variety of successful ladies and no shortage of attendees! Ada Lovelace lived near Porlock Weir in the beautiful (but now sadly gone) house of Ashley Combe. She was the only legitimate daughter of Lord Byron but of course her fame stemmed from her invention of the world’s first computer programme; she was remarkably talented in mathematics and software design, even though her most famous paper was published way back in 1843. Another reason to be proud of Porlock and its inhabitants is the wonderfully successful Porlock Bay Oyster project, which is preparing to sell the latest batch of oysters before they over-winter and re-emerge for sale in the Spring. They were featured on Countrywise on ITV last night, with Ben Fogle sampling the delights of the Bay and cooking with top local chef Andrew Dixon. It was wonderful to see Porlock on TV (again!)! It flies over Hurlstone Point and along the beach, gaining an unusual angle and a really stunning result. I could watch this film over and over!
